Ahead of the weekly Iowa State University Student Government Senate meeting, Vice President Eliana Crabb and Senator Natalia Rios, a graduate in political science, international studies and public relations, will host an optional meeting on microaggressions.

The student government will vote on funding of $ 12,000 for the SHOP pantry.

SHOP is a pantry run by students and run entirely by volunteers. The main objective is to help food insecure students and members of the Ames community. They aim to improve awareness of hunger and food security and engage with anti-hunger activists, according to Iowa State Student Organization Database.

If passed, the funds acquired by this bill would allow SHOP to provide multicultural food products.

They would also expand their services by serving a variety of toiletries and other household items not normally found in SHOP.

In order to improve accessibility during presidential and vice-presidential debates, the student government will pass a bill to finance a sign language interpreter.

The bill says the electoral commission seeks to improve student accessibility to student government election debates for hearing-impaired students.

The student government will introduce a bill that funds a new online funding program.

This bill would replace an existing financial program that funds server setup, graphic design, budgeting, and workflow, among others. This new program would be a more functional budgeting program that would increase transparency and accessibility for students.

The student government will also confirm an appointment to the Supreme Court and appointments of senators in the humanities. The Student Government Senate will also meet with Ames City Council on October 27. Ex officio liaison with city council Trevor Poundstone, a senior specialist in management information systems, will present a program for the joint meeting at the Wednesday meeting.

The student government meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Campanile room of the Union Memorial.
