RubberDucks announces new foods taken to extreme heights on opening day

From opening day Tuesday, the rubber ducks will delight fans’ taste buds with three new Extreme Food Menu dishes at Canal Park: Another Cheesy Canal Pork Dog, PopCONE Chicken and Never Sausage a Thing.
The latest creative food offerings come in the 10th year for the ballpark Extreme Food offerings, which began in 2011, didn’t happen in 2020 when the park was closed during the pandemic, but returned last season.

“There will be something for everyone,” said general manager Jim Pfander. “When you think of a baseball game, the food is such a big part of the experience. They almost become synonymous with each other.”
He praised chef Louis Willmon Holland for adding items from the Extreme Food menu that are both creative and tasty.
“These are awesome creations, just really out of the box that people get excited about every year. When they come for opening day and they come to a game this year, their eyes light up and they are like, ‘Oh my God, I have to try one,'” Pfander said.
Willmon Holland, in his third year at Canal Park, said he has focused on traditional foods this year.
Another Cheesy Canal Pork Dog, brought to you by WONE Spatz & Amanda, is a foot-long hot dog topped with pulled pork, fried onions and Stouffer’s macaroni and cheese. It costs $13 and will be sold at the Dog Pound concession stand.
“I love hot dogs, so I thought the foot-long hot dog would be perfect,” the chef said. “Then I just thought, ‘What if I put pulled pork and macaroni and cheese on one?’ ”
Chicken PopCONE, presented by ESPN Cleveland, is a different take on chicken and waffles, with crispy fried popcorn chicken tossed in a tangy homemade honey sauce and served in a waffle cone. It costs $7 and can be found at the Tater stand.
Finally, Never Sausage a Thing, Willmon Holland’s version of a Polish boy, is a giant hot dog topped with coleslaw, scallions and barbecue sauce, served in a baked potato (8, $50).
The chef took Cleveland’s Polish Boy sandwich – traditionally made with Polish sausages topped with coleslaw, fries and barbecue sauce – and adapted it to nest a hot dog in a potato, considering that he didn’t have a fryer to make fries at the Biergarten where the sandwich will be served.
“He thinks it’s so unique because the baked potato is the ‘bun,'” Pfander said.
Other items on the Extreme Food menu include the Not Your Routine poutine, made with fries topped with gravy, cheese curds, pulled pork, green onions and bacon bits; and Three Dog Night, a halved kielbasa with a bratwurst inside, which is halved with a hot dog inside, topped with sauerkraut and served on a bun.
Another Extreme Food return is the $98.1 KDD Screamer – 21 scoops of ice cream served on a brownie and finished with toppings. It’s a “5-pound monstrosity” that’s meant to be shared, Pfander said.
Other Extreme Food products that will be returning are the Pineapple TeriyAkron Bowl, featuring white rice, grilled chicken, diced pineapple, Thai garlic sauce and teriyaki glaze in a hollowed-out pineapple half; and Nice 2 Meat U Burger, two 8-ounce Angus beef burgers with two beef franks, bacon, grilled onions and American cheese on a toasted kaiser bun.
It’s about creating the ballpark experience no matter what happens on the field.
“At the minor league baseball level, we have no control over the players on the field. We could have a team that wins a championship like they did last year or we could have a team that won’t. maybe not as many games. But what we can control is the experience – the fun, the food, the sights, the smells and the sounds when you come to the ballpark,” Pfander said.
