The Longview Lions Club is giving two local organizations a $ 750 shopping spree

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – The Longview Lions Club has given back this holiday season with a grocery shopping session for community members in need.
House of Disciples and Mercy Manor were given $ 750 to spend on whatever they needed at Albertsons. They spent weeks budgeting and putting together a list to get ready for the big day.
They were originally told they would only receive $ 500, but when they showed up they were surprised to receive an additional $ 250.
âMore than anything, this is an added blessing to the home and we are very grateful for it,â said Jennifer Beddingfield, executive director of marketing for Wiseman Ministry.
The two organizations stocked several carts with personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies and a variety of food items, and with lists in hand, they walked every aisle.
“Today we received a huge blessing by receiving shopping spree items and between Albertsons and the Lions Club we have probably about $ 750-800 in supplies for our pantries, freezers and items for our customers,” said Stephanie Fear, executive director of Mercy Manor.
Once they filled their baskets and made their way to the cashier, with all the items and coupons scanned, there was still enough money left for the treats.
âWe can do something really special for the guys so we have gum for them,â Beddingfield said. âWhat you know, they don’t always get gum. So we have to buy them some chewing gum and just a special gift for the guys. ”
The Longview Lions Club was grateful for being able to give back each year and hope to continue the shopping spree for years to come.
“Oh, it’s absolutely wonderful and we feel like we play a small part, I know it’s important for them, but it’s a small role for us because what these organizations are doing for the people of east Texas is just great, âsaid Don Francis, a Longview Lion Club Member.
