Hoping that summer 2021 is better than 2020? It’s hard to see how it could get any worse. For those who are not on a national lockout, there are certain destinations it is possible to travel to at the moment. They even have bars, restaurants and tourist attractions open and few curfews.
It is better to check the latest travel restrictions for each country in Europe before booking.
With a mix of non-European and EU countries, all of your needs are covered by this blazing list of vacation destinations.
Where can I fly now?
Croatia is popular for its light blue coastline (although most beaches are rocky rather than sandy) and has over 1,000 beautiful islands to visit.
For thrill seekers, Croatia is home to some of Europe’s greatest activities vacation and its beautiful national parks are perfect for a hike.

Tourists and visitors from any country can visit Croatia as long as they have proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test from the previous 48 hours, or proof of recovery from COVID. Proof of paid accommodation is required for people residing outside the Schengen area.
Home to the Parthenon, the Acropolis and the longest list of countries from which tourists are allowed to enter, Greece is active campaign for visitors this year.
Greek bars and restaurants have been open for al fresco dining since May so you can enjoy their famous cuisine and nightlife. The government hopes that the Greek islands will be COVID free through June.
Visitors to Greece will need proof of vaccination, a negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of their flight, or proof of recovery. There is no quarantine for EU, Schengen / EEA or UK countries other. All participants are required to complete a Passenger tracking form.
One of the most visited countries in the world and home to iconic and historic cities such as Venice and Rome, this Mediterranean destination opens to tourists in the summer of 2021. With incredible city breaks, beautiful beaches and magnificent landscapes, it’s easy to see why millions of people visit Italy every year.
Italy allows entry from all EU countries as well as a list of others, including the UK and the US. All visitors require a negative PCR test from the previous 48 hours and will be required to complete a digital form passenger tracking form. Secondary forms are required for entry to Sicily, Apulia and Calabria.
Visitors to Italy will still be subject to an 11pm curfew which is in place until July 2021 and must respect the mandatory wearing of masks in public places
Malta officially reopened to tourists in June 2021 and is the first European country to reach collective immunity. Located in the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, Malta is rich in culture and history and enjoys 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.
Citizens of EU countries and some countries such as UK and Canada can enter Malta with a negative PCR test in the past 72 hours, with vaccine passports expected to be introduced in July.
Maltese restaurants can stay open until midnight and the wearing of masks outdoors should be relaxed in July.
Chase the stunning Northern Lights, relax in the thermal baths, try ice climbing on the Sólheimajökull and Svínafellsjökull glaciers or dine at one of Iceland’s many fish restaurants.
Travelers who have been vaccinated and those who can prove they have recovered from COVID-19 can enter Iceland without quarantine but must be tested upon arrival.
You can avoid a two-week quarantine by getting tested at the airport. Even if your test is negative, you must then self-isolate for five days before having a second test.
This Balkan country is an often overlooked destination, but it has a lot to offer: historic walled towns, luxurious beaches and stunning national parks.
Visitors to Montenegro can enjoy a walking tour of Kotor’s Old Town or a cruise along the beautiful coast. Montenegro’s theaters, bars and cinemas are open, and if you’re lucky enough to own one, the ports are open to yachts.
Montenegro accepts visitors from all countries provided that tourists have either a negative PCR test from the previous 72 hours, a negative antigen test from the previous 48 hours, proof of recovery or proof of vaccination. No proof of the test is required from countries neighboring Montenegro.
Portugal is known for its beautiful beaches and we have what you need for the less frequented. Portugal is currently in the fourth stage of its reopening, which means no masks are worn on the beach and restaurants and hotels are open.
Portugal is open to all residents of EU countries and to certain third country. A negative PCR test performed within 72 hours of arrival is required for entry and this also applies to Azores and Madeira Islands. Visitors will also need to complete a Passenger tracking form.
Out of Europe
The picturesque Indian Ocean islands that make up the Maldives offer crystal-clear waters and palm-fringed beaches, tropical mountain forests and are a snorkeler’s paradise.
Visitors must provide a negative test result within the past four days.
There are no quarantine requirements except for UK travelers, who must self-isolate for ten days.
Tourists are to stay on designated “resort islands” and stay at only one establishment for the duration of the vacation.
This tropical island just off the coast of mainland Tanzania offers white sandy beaches, treks in the Jozani Forest, boat trips around the islands, and delicious seafood.
Travelers to Zanzibar must have a negative PCR test within the previous 72 hours and travelers from countries with high COVID-19 rates will be subjected to rapid tests upon arrival. Surveillance of travelers form must be completed by all air passengers prior to arrival.
Restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as non-essential Zanzibar shops and attractions are open.
For the jungles, beaches, temples and cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula, you can find the culture, history, nature and cuisine in Mexico.
Mexico is open to arrivals from all countries, however, the border with the United States is closed. Arrivals may be quarantined, depending on the results of health examinations. A temperature control is carried out on arrival in Mexico.
Restaurants and bars in areas other than the red zone are open with varying capacity limitations.
Flanked by the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans, Costa Rica has something for nature and beach lovers and thrill seekers with lush rainforests, volcanoes, thriving wildlife and tropical beaches.
