Veterans Honor Flight Benefit Breakfast scheduled for Sunday at East Grand Forks VFW
A breakfast to raise money for the Minnesota and North Dakota Veterans Honor Flight is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 3 at VFW, 312 DeMers Ave., in East Grand Forks.
Tickets cost $ 5 per person.
The menu will include pancakes, cookies and gravy, sausage, potatoes, orange juice and coffee.
The event will also include a silent auction and bake sale, said Don Roberts of Grand Forks, who has hosted numerous benefits in support of the Honor Flight program.
The Veterans Honor Flight of ND / MN is a non-profit organization created solely to honor American Veterans for all their sacrifices.
The Honor Flight carries military veterans on a two-day, all expenses paid trip to see their memorials and other historic landmarks in Washington, DC All transportation, accommodation and food costs are covered. Veterans may be accompanied by a family member or caregiver, but experienced volunteer healthcare professionals and assistants are also available to provide support and assistance to Veterans as needed.
Veterans are encouraged to apply to participate in the flights. Priority is given to veterans of World War II, whose numbers are declining, and those with a fatal illness. More recently, veterans of the Korean and Vietnam wars have been eligible.
Due to the pandemic, honor flights have been postponed for the past 18 months, but some are slated for 2022, although no specific date has yet been set, Robert said.
